ML Electronics celebrates shortlisting as finalists of Wiltshire
Business Awards 2005
Salisbury-based ML Electronics (MLE)
has been shortlisted as a finalist in the 2005 Wiltshire Business of
the Year awards. MLE, a developer of specialist electronics systems
founded in 1995, were selected out of over 200 hundred entrants to
be one of the 20 finalists shortlisted. Further to this they are one
of only two companies to be finalists in more than one category;
being considered for the Virgin Mobile Best Business Culture award
and Dyson award for engineering.
The awards’ judging process saw MLE receive a visit from Virgin
Mobile and an invitation to present at Dyson’s headquarters in
Malmesbury during which the judging panels learnt more about the
company. Clare Hamilton-Eddy, Business Sales Manager and Event's
Organiser for the Awards says,
'This year saw the most applicants ever, and at an extremely high
standard. It is always refreshing to see such a successful and
dynamic company such as ML Electronics enter. The judging visit
impressed us all and we went away from the experience feeling that
we had learned a great deal from such a unique and genuine business
culture. Everyone in the company should be very proud to have made
it to this Finalist stage. '
During both of the judging visits the panels were interested to
learn more about MLE’s unique approach to empowering its staff by
encouraging them to work in cross-disciplined teams to develop
different areas of the business and take ownership of changes
happening within their workplace. This approach has an enormous
impact on both MLE’s business culture and its ability to deliver
innovative electronics solutions to its clients. Managing Director
Mike Lloyd comments:
“To be recognised within our county for our engineering
capabilities and for having a great business culture means a great
deal to us, as these are core to our business. MLE is all about the
people who provide the service to our clients, and if our people are
happy in a fantastic working environment, then we know we will be
delivering the best possible results to our clients.”
The visits also allowed MLE to showcase examples of their recent
work including “The Source”, a moving sculpture commissioned by the
London Stock Exchange, which was developed for Urban Artists
Greyworld, and the PlasmaJet™, an innovative coagulation device
developed for Plasma Surgical; which can reduce patient risk during
surgery and shorten hospital stays.
In the past 18 months MLE has seen its staff grow by 40% and has
received the Investors in People award for its commitment to
providing a unique working environment for its staff as it continues
to expand. MLE sees its culture as being central to its engineering
capabilities and being considered for awards in both of these areas
is testament to MLE’s commitment to them.
