Remote Data Logger

Remote Data Logger- 500 Channels

What is the remote data logger?EIT Image of lungs

A multi-channel measurement product developed by MLE to be a highly accurate scientific or medical instrument that takes measurements and stores data, which is remotely retrievable by a central controller & database, it can be a self-sufficient remote measuring station. It can be used for many scientific & industrial situations where you need to measure a large number of analogue signals at the same time. It can be self-powered from solar and wind generators and has built-in hardware to manage the battery & charging. Software communicates battery condition back to the central controller.

Max number of individual inputs - 500

Resolution of each input 24 Bit DC

Max simultaneous readings - 10

Max data storage - unlimited

How it works

Depending on the application, the inputs can be configured to measure many parameters. It could be volts or amps, temperature, humidity or any other parameter that can be resolved to a small voltage. The system has a built-in stimulation power supply so measurements can be taken during and post an electrical stimulation. This can be useful in a biological situation or electrical impedance tomography application. These measurements are then stored on the unit and the data presented in value form for interpretation. The user can then retrieve the data remotely via GSM telephone or internet.

Why this product is so special
The unit is entirely self-sufficient; it is able to assess its power levels and recharge its battery if required and contains a sophisticated power management system that enables it to do this. The unit conserves its energy by effectively waking up at pre-programmed times to carry out measurements and store the data it collects and then turn itself off until the next measurement is required.

Data Logger Channel Cards

Clever technology
We were more than happy to undertake the design of the Remote Data Logger's entire system and used a modular approach which gives the product more flexibility. The system consists of three modular parts; a power supply, a processor and a channel card, which are interfaced by MLE communications software and combines to control a set of 32 probes, channels or data lines. The channel card can be replicated to give an additional set of 32 inputs to the product if desired which simplifies future manufacturing requirements and means that the product's scope can be extended to carry out larger scale measurements on a modular basis.

The Remote Data Logger features 10 high accuracy 24 bit analogue to digital converters (ADC's) from Texas Instruments and our software enables the processor to sample all 10 simultaneously. Data is logged continuously to a high capacity and cost-effective MMC/SD card. Using a removeable storage solution allows our data logger virtually unlimited future data expansion.

All the modules in the system have a fieldbus interface which allows easy extension of capability.

The size of the project and the complexity of its software made it a real challenge. The system has so many functions to perform: power management, modem control, time management, MMC interface, analogue to digital conversion and controlled output power.

If you believe the MLE Remote Logger could be utilised and/or adapted in any way for your application then please contact us today.
