"The intelligent lighting industry"
The solid state lighting industry has arrived and is advancing at an incredible rate. New product developments appear almost daily. Due to the increasing capability of solid state lighting, many companies using traditional applications realise that fluorescent, halogen and incandescent technology will rapidly diminish to a few specialised applications. The solid state lighting resources which MLE use for electronic designs include high brightness LEDs, high power LEDs, and organic LEDs (OLEDs).
As each new technology appears there are slightly different electronic drive design requirements, added to this is the increasingly complex communication expected between numerous modules and a controller of some description, whilst maintaining a simple installation procedure. It is not surprising the industry is looking to electronics designers and silicon chip suppliers to create simple-to-use modular lighting drive technology.
MLE recognises this requirement and has created leading edge technology that rapidly and simply incorporates the new lighting technologies into existing light fittings.
In addition MLE is using the new technologies available to develop entirely new concepts that are revolutionising the industry. As specialists in electronic design we have experience in a wide range of applications that need to utilise lighting products and optical electronics.
MLE has developed electronic modules that incorporate the advanced capability of the Cypress Power PSoC. These PSoC devices are one of the greatest ground breaking new technologies since the development of the original microprocessor device over 50 years ago.
MLE's product design technology consists of two basic modules; individual light drivers, and a DMX/DALI (Digitally Addressable Lighting Interface) compatible controller that communicates using two wires. The controller incorporates a power supply and can support up to
512 light driver modules.
Each module can individually control a number of red, green, blue or white light LED's.
The modules can be configured to work in many ways either as a single self contained lighting point or as part of a complex electronic system design that is wired using only two wires and allows up to 512 lamps to be connected to a single DMX compatible device. Simple programming allows controllable mood ambience or specific sequences in a light rope application.
By having individual control of each LED precision colour matching is possible.
Cypress lead the way in provision of intelligent control of LED and other solid state light technology. Patented hardware and processes provide precision colour outputs with hardware and modulation techniques providing millions of colours from low cost parts that are optimised to pass stringent EMC requirements.
MLE have years of optical electronics design experience creating lighting equipment and power electronics , including the use of ceramic substrates to allow high volume build of power circuitry for repeatable and reliable products. In addition we have manufacturing services available in both the UK and overseas, to cater for all production quantities.
Applications of the MLE module include, LED lights, DMX remote control, universal mood controller, low energy, high efficiency, mood lighting, High power LED RGB, strip lights, rope lights, down lights, spotlights, power line communications , home automation, dimmable lights, candle lamps, flat LEDs, modulation drivers with DMX interface, integrated controllers, wireless, infra red controllers, programmable mood sequencers, architectural lighting, rechargeable flashlights, general signage, emergency vehicle lighting, entertainment lighting, and more.
DMX-512 is a lighting communications standard. It was created in 1986 as a standardised method for
connecting lighting consoles to dimmer packs and was revised in 1990 to allow more flexibility. Since that time, it has become the most common communication standard used by lighting equipment. The ISP-DMX standard defines the use of 32 channels, and reserves 34 channels for future ILDA standardisation. The DMX-512 specification is also called the USITT DMX512/1990 standard.
As a result of climate change new targets for building, energy consumption and carbon emissions have been recently revised. The 1995 edition of Part L was replaced in 2002 with a major reworking of the approved document (Part L1/L2). This included, for the first time, the requirement to assess the annual carbon rating of a building which required detailed design considerations for cooling, lighting loads, tighter fabric performance levels and air leakage standards, and this will be further reduced in the future. The use of LED lighting, high efficiency light drivers and intelligent optical controllers will aid compliance.
MLE are UK Cypress design consultants, and are specialists in technologies such as lamp ballasts, high pressure sodium ballasts, power line communicat
ions, 2 wire intelligent rope lighting, motion detection, motion absence detection, PIR, wireless infrared, wifi, 2.4GHZ, PSoC development, LED, OLED.
