Inverter Design UK

We have been involved in inverter design for numerous applications and power ratings. Based in the UK, we provide various power supply design services (mW to 100kW).

We have the in-house capability to produce an extremely wide range of robust and reliable inverter products. This includes both linear and digital topologies providing high efficiencies of up to 95% with low thermal and electrical stress factors.

We can produce stand alone, rack or rail mount inverters.

EMC is an important aspect in inverter design and we have considerable expertise in this area. Our development philosophy fully incorporates EMC considerations from initial concept and we have in-house pre-compliance test equipment to aid the development process.

10VA Triple output 50Hz sinusoidal inverterTCS Inverter

Here a PIC16C54 calculates in real time the 20KHz Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) drive waveform for a low cost inverter power supply design with a high quality sinusoidal output. By using the PIC and a MOSFET push-pull bridge an advantage is gained over traditional analogue control circuits both in cost and complexity. All control functions such as current limit (with well-defined characteristics) and under voltage lockout are provided by the PIC. There is no need to provide active dc flux balance as the drive waveforms are digitally exact, as is the frequency. As the PIC uses a single fetch per instruction it is not possible to get 'hung up' by executing data rather than instructions, and with a built in watchdog a very robust solution is possible. Although a pre-production unit (supplied to a UK client) is shown here, this inverter is now in manufacture.

UPS Systems

We have a wide experience of uninterruptible power supply design, including off line UPS, line interactive, true on line double conversion, single phase, three phase and also for AC & DC loads. We are based in the UK & have in-house capability to produce an extremely wide range of robust and reliable UPS designs for numerous applications, with power levels ranging from 100VA up to 100kVA.

Given our wide UPS design experience (of both systems and components) including communications and interfaces, we can provide equipment that incorporates remote diagnostics informing the user/system of component status such as power failure, over-current & over-temperature.

EMC is an important aspect in UPS design and we have considerable expertise in this area. In many competitor's units "anti-noise'' components have been added on a trial-and-error basis during the final stage of the development process when EMI is found to exceed the compliance limits (e.g., Defstan 59-41 or MIL 416), inevitably adding to the cost of production. Our uninterruptible power supply design philosophy fully incorporates EMC considerations from initial concept and we have in house pre-compliance test equipment to aid the development process.
